Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, ViroGates has decided to offer our suPARnostic® products free of charge to Emergency Departments in Denmark. Our aim is to assist hospitals in determining whether patients with respiratory symptoms, potentially indicating a coronavirus infection, should be admitted or discharged.

With coronavirus infections continuing to rise exponentially, it may soon become impossible for emergency admissions, medical departments, and intensive care units to accommodate all patients needing treatment. Quick triage decisions are therefore crucial, especially now.

Although suPAR isn’t directly linked to COVID-19, severe cases of the virus often result in elevated suPAR levels. Studies have shown that elevated suPAR levels are associated with clinical severity and mortality in various viral infections. This makes suPAR a valuable tool alongside standard medical assessments. It helps identify patients suitable for discharge (low suPAR, mild infection) and those requiring hospitalization (high suPAR, severe infection, and increased mortality risk), providing doctors with more informed decision-making support.
