suPARnostic® TurbiLatex will now be available for clinical decision making in the Emergency Department of Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca, located in the Murcia region in Spain.

The hospital has begun using suPARnostic® TurbiLatex on its Roche cobas platform to improve triage in the emergency department, focusing on COVID-19 cases. It’s the second hospital in Murcia and the third in Spain to adopt this product this year.

In June, Cartagena’s Hospital General Universitario Santa Lucía started using suPAR on its Roche cobas platform for emergency department triage. In April, León Hospital in Castilla y León also incorporated suPARnostic® into its clinical routine.

The Arrixaca University Hospital, the largest in Murcia with about 1200 beds and serving 1.4 million people, is now using this tool. With Spain, including Murcia, severely affected by COVID-19, the hospital sees about 60 COVID-19 patients daily, a number that is increasing. Dr. Jose Antonio Noguera Velasco, the laboratory head, led the implementation.

Dr. Noguera commented, “Based on prior studies, we expect suPAR measurements to aid in patient stratification, thus enhancing our patient care, especially now as the COVID-19 pandemic significantly strains our healthcare system.”
